The Un-Official Hiroshima Fan Page

Well here is the "unofficial" Hiroshima Fan Page, I've written to them and am still waiting for a reply. Till then I hope to have some information about the group and the albums. A little bit of my brush with the group… I used to work for a local radio station in Hawaii called KZOO 1210 AM which the format was Japanese music from enka to new music (enka is a name for Japanese folksongs, new music is considered not idol (singers that are "found" for their looks and not the singing ability) kinda like jazz fusion). One of the employees was introduced to Dan Kuromoto, the leader of the group Hiroshima. She invited Dan to the studio to do an interview. It was at this time I got to meet him and talk with him a little and sign my albums (yes, I do have those big black disks that you play on something called a record player).

AMG BIOGRAPHY: Dan Kuramoto (keyboards, sax, flute, shakuhachi), June Okida Kuramoto (Koto), and Johnny Mori and Danny Yamamoto (percussion) debuted in 1979 on a self-titled Arista album. After a sophomore work (Odori) in 1980, the group signed with Epic and released five albums: Third Generation (1983), Another Place (1985), Go (1987), East (1989) and Providence (1992). During this period, Hiroshima added bassist Dean Cortez and keyboardist Kimo Cornwell. The band signed with Qwest and released Hiroshima L.A. in 1994. -- John Bush.  In 1995 Kimaya Seward (lead vocals, violin, synthesizer) joined the group and have since been heard on the groups last few albums.

The news from they're web site is that June Kuramoto will be working on a solo album, but with the group touring, it's not known at this time when it will be released.

The latest release, upon listening at this time, is a beautiful blend of the Japanese flavor with the spicy Latin flavor.  It was well worth waiting for.

I do wish that I could see them in concert again, I went to 3 of they're concerts while living in Hawaii and even got to meet them (Dan Kuramoto) backstage.  Minnesota is a far cry from the beautiful atmosphere of Hawaii which it seems some of they're inspiration comes from.
